Wanting To Be Like You

A table with books of poetry for sale.

A longing to be something I know I am not,

I wish only to be like a beautiful butterfly.

But I can't be those things sometimes,

I wish I could grow wings and fly to the sky.

In a time where I thought I could be me,

I knew all along I was someone else its true.

I only wanted to be looked at like anyone else,

I just wanted someone to tell me they love me too.

So sheltered dreams kept me safe as I went to sleep,

But I often wondered what would it be like to be you still.

So I cast my wishes in the well below,

And I held onto my lucky penny with all of my will.

Down it went as I watched it make a droplet in the water,

I felt a cold wind pass me by in the autumn leaf tree surround.

I don't know who I am suppose to be but I do know I don't like me,

A friend can I have one please and promise me you'll be around.

So when I feel all cold and alone in the world to be there,

Just give me a little moment with you in due time.

For all I do want is wanting to be like you,

I am positive that is when I'll know everything else will be fine.
